Mata Ki Chowki is a special religious event dedicated to worshipping the Hindu goddess Sherawali Mata. It is a spiritual gathering where devotees come together to sing devotional songs & bhajans in praise of the goddess Durga maa. It is usually organized at homes or community halls, where people gather to enjoy, sing & dance on devotional bhajans. The atmosphere is filled with spiritual energy as devotees express their love and gratitude towards Mata Rani.

Deity Setup

  • Idol or picture of Goddess Durga
  • Idol of Lord Ganesh
  • Idol of Lord Hanuman
  • Vaishno Devi Pindi
  • Wooden chowki (platform) covered with red cloth

Puja Items

  • Kalash Ganga jal and mango leaves
  • Incense sticks (agarbatti) and dhoop
  • Diya (oil lamp) with ghee or oil
  • Kumkum, haldi (turmeric), and chandan (sandalwood paste)
  • Akshat (rice grains mixed with turmeric)
  • Flowers and garlands

Offerings

  • Fresh fruits (especially banana, apple, and orange)
  • Sweets (especially halwa, ladoo, and barfi)
  • Dry fruits (almonds, cashews, raisins)
  • Panchamrit (mixture of milk, curd, honey, sugar, and ghee)
  • Coconut water and milk for abhishekam

The Mata Ki Chowki Ceremony

Before the Event

  1. Clean and purify the venue
  2. Set up the chowki (platform) and cover it with a red cloth
  3. Arrange the idols of Goddess Durga, Lord Ganesh, Lord Hanuman, and Vaishno Devi Pindi
  4. Decorate the area with flowers, lights, and rangoli
  5. Prepare the offerings and puja items

During the Ceremony

  1. Begin with Ganesh Vandana to remove obstacles
  2. Perform Kalash Sthapana (establishing the sacred pot)
  3. Invoke the Goddess through mantras and prayers
  4. Offer flowers, fruits, and sweets to the deity
  5. Perform aarti with devotional songs
  6. Sing bhajans and devotional songs led by Rajeev G and musicians
  7. Distribute prasad (blessed offerings) to all attendees
